I just created these two videos for my You Tube Channel.  The first one is an update video where I talk about this being my last semester in Graduate School, when my next contest will be, my future videos, and schedual that I will have this semester until I graudate.  Please watch to the end, & you’ll get a very cute surprise!!

The next video is my first Promotional Video (Electronic Press Kit) that I have created for this website www.MakeupByLaurenP.com!  I worked very hard on it, and I am pleased with the results.  There are other versions that I will be making as well pertaining solely to my makeup services.  I love the idea of an electronic press kit because I feel that is easily more accessible in this technology driven time that we live in.  Also, I feel that it gives you a better sense of what I do by being able to see small clips of notable interviews and tutorials.  That awesome singer in the background is MizMetro singing “City Screams”.  I hope you enjoyed both videos!

I had the pleasure of meeting author and Makeup Artist Karen Cecilia at Shecky’s Girls Night Out on March 9th, 2010 in New York City.  When I saw on the Girls Night Out website that a Makeup Artist was selling her book and available to meet for one night only, I made it a point to be able to come that night  so that I could grab myself a copy of this tell-all about the beauty industry.  Karen was a pleasure to meet, and very approachable.  I began by introducing myself and after some small talk about how I am also a free-lance makeup artist; I began interviewing her (click here to watch it).  I then picked up my own copy of her book The Lipstick Classified- The Beauty Truth: A Life In The Beauty Industry, which she personally autographed for me. The total package of this book is very smart: from the title “Lipstick Classified”, to the cover photograph of Karen sitting reading a newspaper with a lipstick in her hand.  Credits to the visual aspect of this book belong to Jen Halpern for photography, and Andie Lessa for Cover Design.  Editing credits belong to Autumn Conley.

This 139 page book is full of anecdotes pertaining to Karen’s journey through the beauty industry intertwined with published beauty articles of hers explaining not only tricks of the trade, but also her perspective on the beauty industry.  Karen addresses every type of woman in this book: Moms, Brides, Kids, and Mature Makeup as well.  The way in which Karen delves into every aspect of the beauty industry makes you feel like you are right there with her learning all the tricks she has learned along the way.

Some of my favorite articles in Karen’s book are titled: “Lashes and Brows”, “From The Office To The Holiday Party”, “10 New Years Beauty Resolutions”, “Date Makeup”, and “9 Uses For Vaseline”.

When I completed Karen’s book, I felt like I was fulfilled with a plethora of knowledge that would benefit me as I navigate my own career as a makeup artist, and as a young grad student trying to juggle two budding careers.  She answers beauty related questions that women may have always wondered about but was afraid to ask.  This book is small enough to travel with and was the perfect break I need in the midst of writing my graduate thesis and traveling to school.  I honestly did not realize how much information could fit into this book, and I appreciate the style in which Karen did so.  Every interesting story she told coupled her published beauty articles in such a way that made the whole point of her book come full circle:

“If you are in the makeup industry—whether it’s working with models for the local penny saver or on contract with a high class salon where your clients are a bevy of divas, I want you to use what I’ve learned to broaden your understanding.”

I urge every woman out there to pick up this handy book on ALL things Beauty related.  It is as informative and entertaining for the au-natural no frills mother as it is for the working makeup artist.

What do you think of it? I think its such a beautiful, neutral pink toned color for the summer! I wore this the week we were in a wedding, and I didn’t want anything too flashy.  In the Next N.O.T.D., I will show the next manicure I had, along with what made my nails grow so long!

• My boyfriends father bought me a gorgeous ceramic hand painted jewelry box which says “Puebla” on top with flowers adorned on it.

• My boyfriend bought me a beautiful dress which can be worn as a beach cover-up as well.  My boyfriend took a picture of me trying it on, on top of my clothes just so I can see how it fits….and I wasn’t ready for the picture

• I bought my mother a beautiful hand-made cross, and a pair of ceramic white earrings with red flowers on it from a market outside the church in his town
• 

• I  bought my self:

• A silver flower ring with stones in the petals
• A HUGE gold ring with an intricate Leopard(?) design using black and silver stones
• two pairs of rose earrings, in pink and in purple
• 
• Amazing, all natural products that were made from a honey factory! Hand Cream, Eye Cream, and Lip Balm!

I saw DulceCandy87’s video on “Blog Ready Makeup”, which featured two of the four products that I bought in this haul.  Dulce used the Revlon makeup along with the L’oreal Anti-Redness Primer (the green one), to create a flawless look that is camera ready and can stand the heat and light from taking photographs.  I used it once already and loved it.  I only warn that you use each of these products sparingly! I used a drop and in person it looked fine, but in some photos I noticed that my face was a little “too even toned” and I needed some more color to my face.  Overall, I really like these products, and now I know to use even less than a drop in the future!
